Watershed Tech are a Series A B2B SaaS business based in Hove, Brighton — thirty-five engineers, well-led by a CTO who came out of FreeAgent. They’re hiring a Senior Full-Stack Developer to join the platform team, which owns the core data layer and the APIs that the customer-facing teams consume.
The genuine appeal of this role: it’s a real engineering culture, not just one in the job description. The team has weekly architecture reviews, takes design docs seriously, and the engineering leadership has refused — repeatedly — to allow the firm to grow faster than its hiring quality can sustain. The result is a small team that consistently ships and rarely burns out.
Stack: TypeScript across the board (Next.js on the front, Node.js + Fastify on the back), PostgreSQL primary, Redis for caching and queues, AWS, Terraform-managed infra. They’ve made some thoughtful choices that don’t always agree with conference trends — happy to talk through.
Who fits: five-plus years’ experience, strong TypeScript, comfort across the stack but particularly at home on the backend. Genuine interest in the product engineering craft (design docs, code review, technical writing) rather than headline-chasing. The team is mostly senior; you’re not joining to mentor juniors.
£70-88k + share options. Hybrid (two days in the Hove office). Brighton or commutable area required — this is not a remote role.
